Safety Information
For additional safety and operating information on ladders, follow this link: Ladder Safety
- Ladders must sit securely on level ground.
- Never move a ladder when it is extended.
- Never extend the ladder beyond its designed height.
- Watch overhead electrical wires. Stay a minimum of 6' (six feet) away from electrical lines.
- Particular caution must be used when you are using a metal ladder around electrical equipment or electrical lines. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU RENT A FIBERGLASS LADDER IF THERE IS ANY QUESTION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT OR ELECTRICAL LINES BEING IN THE WORKPLACE AREA.
- Required overlap in extension: Up to 36' (36 foot) ladders MUST have a 3' (3-foot) overlap; 36' - 48' (36-to-48-foot) ladders MUST have a 4' (4 foot) overlap.
- Ladders of the Type I Aluminum Class have a maximum total weight capacity of 250 lbs.
- The laws governing extension ladders require an angle from the horizontal surface against which the ladder rests be 75.5 degrees (buildings, walls, etc.)
- A simple rule is that the base of the ladder should be 1/4 of the length of the ladder away from the wall, building, etc.
