Grinder, Diamond Inserts Set of 2 Assy.(Edco Dyma-Serts)
Dyma Serts are diamond segments welded to a backing plate to improve grinding speed and remove tough coatings.
Dyma-Serts grind 5 times faster than grinding stones and last longer - up to 30,000 square feet (2,800 sq. m.) of grinding action. Dyma-Serts can be used for wet or dry grinding.
Ideal for:
Smoothing rough surfaces or trowel marks
Grinding or polishing terrazo
Repairing surface damage to concrete slabs
Removing urethane or epoxy thincoats
Grinding sharp aggregates such as flint and granite
Removing surface imperfections from epoxy mortars
Leveling high spots
Removing thin mastics and thin-set
Grinding - Frequently Asked Questions
I have a question about Dyma-Serts. What is the difference between the general purpose diamonds and the epoxy mortar diamonds? Can you use the epoxy mortar diamonds to grind concrete? Would the epoxy diamonds last longer than general purpose diamonds?
Answer: We have three different matrices for our Dyma-Serts: The 1X - General purpose, 2X - Abrasive Concrete and 3X - Epoxy Mortar. The principal behind the Dyma-Serts is that you have diamond segments bonded to a steel matrix. The diamonds in the steel matrix does the actually grinding, so as the steel matrix wears down, it constantly exposes new diamonds to grind with.
For the most part the 1X works fine throughout the majority of the country. However, when encountering abrasive concrete - due to adding abrasive aggregate in concrete like sand, granite, etc or if the concrete is only 2 weeks old; the 1X does not last too long as the abrasive materials eats away the steel matrices too quickly. So, in that scenario you will need to use the 2X which has a stronger steel matrices to resist the abrasiveness. The Epoxy Mortar is even more abrasive which means that the 1X will not last at all and the 2X will do better but will not last up to its optimal life. The 3X has even stronger steel matrices.
In answer to your 2nd question, the 3X can be used on regular concrete. But, because the steel matrices is so hard, it takes it lot longer to wear away and expose the diamonds. This would mean that your 3X will last longer than the 1X on regular concrete but it would grind much slower than the 1X.

What is the best motion to use when grinding? Should I work the grinder forward and backward or in a side to side motion?
Answer: EDCO recommends using the grinder in a side to side motion. Grinding in a side to side motion works naturally with the spinning discs on the grinder and will help eliminate swirl marks, leaving you with a higher quality surface. Pushing the grinder forward can leave swirl marks on the surface.
Is it common for grinder accessories to knock out of a single or dual-disc grinder?
Answer: Yes, having the accessories knock out is a safety feature for the operator and saves wear and tear on the grinder. It is better to have the accessories knock out than for the grinder to jerk and spin out of control when it hits a tough spot in the surface.

Question: What do I use a Strip-Sert for?
Answer: Remove heavy build-up of paint, mastic, resins, tar, fiberglass, ice or much more without damaging the concrete surface.
Tip: Can you cut the surface material with a putty knife or exacto knife? If so, use Strip Serts as your Grinder Accessory!

Question: The Dyma-Serts on my grinder are not wearing evenly. How can I fix this problem?
Answer: The Dyma-Serts need to be rotated.
Tip: Dyma-Serts need to be rotated 180 degrees every 4 hours because the leading edge of the Dyma-Sert wears down first. It is the same reason that tires need to be rotated on a car.

Can a 10" high-speed disc fit on a dual-disc or single-disc grinder?
Answer: No, the 10" high-speed disc does not fit on a dual or single-disc grinder, Even if it did, the regular grinders do not have enough RPM's to spin the disc fast enough to work efficiently.
