Concrete Calculator

Work out exactly how much concrete your pour needs — enter the dimensions below for cubic yards and an 80-lb bag count. When the job is bigger than bags, a concrete or mortar mixer pays for itself in the first weekend.

The Concrete Calculators help you to estimate the required concrete volume for a pour or placement, the volume of concrete needed to fill a block wall, and the volume of concrete needed in a column. Results update as you type and include an approximate 80-lb bag count for smaller jobs.

Concrete Volume

Enter the width, length, and thickness of your pour, and choose whether you are measuring the thickness in inches or feet.

Cubic yards required
80-lb bags (approx.)

Column

Enter the height of the column in feet and the diameter in inches.

Cubic yards required
80-lb bags (approx.)

Block Wall

Enter the height and length of the wall, and choose whether you are filling an 8-inch or 12-inch block wall.

Cubic yards required
80-lb bags (approx.)

Note that this is an estimate. There is significant variation in fill space among different blocks. This calculator assumes the use of double open-ended bond beam blocks.

Show the math
  • Slab: cubic yards = width × length × thickness (in feet; inches ÷ 12) ÷ 27
  • Column: cubic yards = height × (diameter ÷ 24)² × π ÷ 27
  • Block wall: cubic yards = height × length × fill factor ÷ 27, where the fill factor is 0.32 cu ft per sq ft for 8-inch block and 0.51 for 12-inch
  • Bags: one 80-lb bag yields about 0.60 cu ft, so roughly 45 bags per cubic yard, rounded up

From Calculation to Pour

Once you know your volume: small batches mix fine in a towable mixer, and larger slabs call for ready-mix plus the right finishing tools — trowels, screeds, and vibrators we stock parts for year-round. Questions about matching mixer capacity to your pour? Ask our team.
